Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2025

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, has been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2025 in the Institutional Category for its outstanding contributions to disaster management.

Instituted by the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the award recognizes individuals and organizations for their exemplary service in disaster management. Announced annually on January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the award carries a cash prize of ₹51 lakh and a certificate for institutions, while individuals receive ₹5 lakh and a certificate.

For the 2025 award, nominations were invited from July 1, 2024, and received wide publicity across print, electronic, and social media. A total of 297 nominations were received from institutions and individuals.

Established in 1999 in Hyderabad, Telangana, INCOIS plays a crucial role in India’s disaster management strategy, specializing in early warning systems for ocean-related hazards. It is home to the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC), which provides tsunami alerts within 10 minutes, serving India and 28 Indian Ocean countries. Recognized by UNESCO as a leading Tsunami Service Provider, INCOIS is supported by a network of seismic stations, tide gauges, and ocean sensors, offering forecasts for high waves, cyclones, and storm surges to safeguard coastal regions and maritime operations.

INCOIS has played a vital role in disaster response, providing critical advisories during the 2013 Phailin and 2014 Hudhud cyclones, facilitating timely evacuations and minimizing risks to coastal communities. It has also developed the Search and Rescue Aided Tool (SARAT) to assist the Indian Coast Guard, Navy, and Coastal Security Police in locating individuals or objects lost at sea. Additionally, the SynOPS visualization platform integrates real-time data, enhancing coordination during extreme events.

INCOIS has received several prestigious accolades, including the Geospatial World Excellence in Maritime Services Award (2024) and the Disaster Risk Reduction Excellence Award (2021), further cementing its reputation as a leader in ocean-based disaster management.
