TIMS Sanath Nagar IGBC Gold Rating

The IGBC Gold Rating recognizes the hospital’s adoption of several green building strategies focused on energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, sustainable materials, and patient well-being.

TIMS, Sanath Nagar, demonstrated approximately 14.89% energy savings through energy-efficient design strategies and systems. The facility has installed a 540 kW solar PV system, meeting 10.31% of the annual energy consumption and reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.

The hospital also incorporated significant water conservation measures. Water-efficient plumbing fixtures have resulted in a 29.97% reduction in potable water consumption compared with baseline fixtures. Its 3,030 m³ rainwater harvesting capacity was designed to capture 100% of roof and non-roof runoff generated from the project site, strengthening its water management practices.

Sustainable material selection was another key aspect of the project. 13% of the total building material cost comprises recycled-content materials, while 62% of the construction material cost is sourced from manufacturers within a 400-km radius, helping reduce transportation-related environmental impacts.

The project also incorporates dedicated healing gardens with medicinal plantations, creating restorative green spaces that support patient recovery and contribute to a healthier and more therapeutic healthcare environment.

Mr. C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII Indian Green Building Council, said:
“It is a pleasure to recognize Dr. MCR Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences, Sanath Nagar, for achieving the IGBC Gold Rating under the IGBC Green Healthcare Facilities Rating System. The project is a great example of how sustainability can be integrated into large-scale healthcare infrastructure. It demonstrates 14.89% energy savings, a 540 Kw solar power system, sustainable construction practices and healing gardens with medicinal plantations. As Telangana’s first hospital to achieve the IGBC Gold Certification, TIMS presents a great example of how green healthcare can support resource efficiency, patient well-being, and environmental responsibility. We congratulate the Government of Telangana, the TIMS team, Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Pvt Ltd., and all stakeholders on this important achievement.”

The IGBC Green Healthcare Facilities Rating System promotes the development of healthcare facilities that minimize environmental impact while enhancing the health, safety, comfort and well-being of patients, visitors and healthcare professionals. The rating framework encourages hospitals to adopt measures covering energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials, waste management, indoor environmental quality, and site development.

The IGBC Gold Rating for TIMS, Sanath Nagar, underscores the growing importance of sustainable healthcare infrastructure and Telangana’s strong leadership potential in developing healthier, resource-efficient and future-ready public healthcare facilities.
