Media Delegation Visits SECL to Review Mining Operations, Energy Security and Sustainability Initiatives

BILASPUR: A media delegation comprising journalists and media representatives from Bhubaneswar and Uttarakhand visited South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) to gain first-hand insights into its mining operations and contribution to the nation’s energy security. The media familiarisation visit was facilitated by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Raipur, Bhubaneswar and Uttarakhand, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. During an interaction at SECL headquarters in Bilaspur, the delegation was briefed on the company’s operations and initiatives covering environmental stewardship, mine safety, technology adoption, corporate social responsibility, community and employee welfare, diversification and women empowerment. The interaction was attended by Director (HR) Biranchi Das, Director (Technical–Operations) Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra and Director (Technical–Projects & Planning), Additional Charge, Nripendra Nath, along with senior officials.

The delegation also visited SECL’s Gevra Area, Asia’s largest coal mine, where the media representatives witnessed mining operations and gained an understanding of coal extraction and related activities. They also observed environmental and sustainability initiatives, including the Miyawaki plantation programme. SECL management highlighted its commitment to meeting the country’s energy requirements while maintaining a strong focus on safe, technology-driven and sustainable mining, environmental protection and community welfare. The visit concluded with an interactive question-and-answer and experience-sharing session, during which the delegation engaged with SECL officials on issues relating to mining, energy security, safety, technology, environment and community development.
