NEW DELHI: The opening session of SEMICON India 2026 briefly turned into a birthday celebration on Thursday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi received warm birthday greetings from delegates and participants at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre. As PM Modi took the stage to inaugurate the fifth edition of the three-day semiconductor industry conference, the hall resonated with applause and wishes of “Happy Birthday”. The Prime Minister, who turned 76 on Thursday, acknowledged the greetings with a smile and folded hands before thanking the gathering and beginning his inaugural address.
The birthday moment came against the backdrop of an event focused on India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem, covering chip design, manufacturing, packaging and electronics systems. Held from September 17 to 19 under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, SEMICON India 2026 brings together global semiconductor companies, policymakers, researchers, investors and start-ups. Several delegates used their mobile phones to capture the moment as the Prime Minister arrived on the dais, while others extended birthday wishes and applauded. PM Modi’s inauguration also marked the beginning of discussions on industry engagement, policy direction and international partnerships in India’s semiconductor and electronics sectors. D D News
