The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, allocating Rs. 75,021 crore. Launched on February 13, 2024, the scheme offers rooftop solar installation and free monthly electricity up to 300 units for one crore households. Notably, it includes a 60% Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for 2 kW systems, encouraging subsidy applications through a National Portal. The initiative aims to add 30 GW of solar capacity in the residential sector, generate 1000 BUs of electricity, and create around 17 lakh direct jobs.
