NEW DELHI: The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 has commenced across the country with the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”. The campaign focuses on citizen participation and collective ownership of cleanliness through a Whole of Government and Whole of Society approach. This year’s campaign is built around five key pillars: transformation of cleanliness target units and public places; Swachh Paathshala: Yuva for Swachhata; Safai Mitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir; Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata; and Swachhata Se Samriddhi. The initiatives seek to promote sustained cleanliness and greater participation across both rural and urban India.
The campaign also places special emphasis on public awareness of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, including the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders and four-way source segregation. Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil said that on World Tourism Day, special cleanliness drives will focus on tourist destinations, high-footfall areas and beaches. As part of the campaign, nationwide voluntary shramdaan and cleanliness drives will also be organised on October 1 under the banner “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath”, bringing citizens together for a coordinated cleanliness effort.
