NEW DELHI. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Assam in Dispur for conducting a pre-feasibility study of five new greenfield airports. The MoU signing ceremony was graced by the Chief Minister of Assam, Sh. Himanta Biswa Sarma ji. The MoU was signed in the presence of Secretary, MoCA, Sh. Samir Kumar Sinha, and Chairman, AAI, Sh. Vipin Kumar, IAS, along with senior officials from the Centre and the State.
The proposed airport sites include the Manas National Park region, Umrangshu, Majuli, Diphu and Charaideo. This forward-looking initiative aims to significantly strengthen regional air connectivity, accelerate tourism and economic growth, expand commercial opportunities, and further reinforce Assam’s strategic position as the gateway to the Northeast.
