GRSE-KSSL Collaboration Charts New Course for Self-Reliant Maritime Innovation

Kolkata (March 05, 2026): Reinforcing India’s journey towards self-reliance in defence and maritime technology, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) on Thursday, March 05, 2026, to jointly develop and promote indigenous solutions for advanced naval systems, unmanned platforms, and other strategic maritime capabilities for domestic and global markets.

The partnership envisions collaborative efforts to deliver indigenous solutions across a broad spectrum of maritime and defence systems, encompassing ship propulsion and mechanical systems for both naval and commercial vessels, integrated platform management systems, steering and stabilizer assemblies, deck equipment, as well as unmanned platforms, including Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). The collaboration will also seek to identify and pursue opportunities within India and in other mutually agreed international markets.

The MoU was signed by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE and Cmde Ajay Sharma, IN (Retd.), Vice President, Marine Systems, Bharat Forge Ltd, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd.), CMD, GRSE, Shri Baba Kalyani, CMD, Bharat Forge Ltd., Shri Niranjan Bhalerao, Director (Finance), GRSE, Shri M. Venkatesh Murthy, Executive Director (Commercial Shipbuilding & Supply Chain Management), GRSE, and senior officials from both organisations.

This collaboration is expected to combine GRSE’s extensive expertise in shipbuilding and maritime engineering with KSSL’s capabilities as a leading defence OEM in the design and manufacture of advanced defence platforms and systems. The partnership will further contribute to strengthening the national vision of Atmanirbharta by promoting indigenisation, technological collaboration, and enhanced capabilities in defence and maritime systems.
