The “Hydro Energy White Paper – India Hydro 2032″ was recently released, highlighting the growing shift from traditional renewable energy to Round-the-Clock (RTC) contracts. With recent competitive bids, pumped storage is emerging as a key player in renewable energy, with costs as low as ₹4.7 per unit, compared to ₹6.6 per unit for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
India’s storage capacity needs are expected to rise from 12 GW in FY24 to 70 GW by FY30, underscoring the urgency for efficient solutions. The white paper emphasizes the potential of Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) like the 1680 MW Pinnapuram PSP, advocating for increased capacity and better pricing mechanisms to support renewable energy growth.
