The doctors and paramedics of Ispat General Hospital of SAIL, RSP once again proved their mettle by successfully treating a critically injured person and brought him to normalcy.
Mr P. M. C. Datta, a young officer of Plate Mill, met with an accident on 8th January while going to plant. As a result of the road accident his D12 vertebrae of his spine was fractured. During the course of treatment and medical investigation with MRI and successive Xray, it has been decided to conduct non-surgical treatment with bed rest.
After 6 weeks, the patient developed backache associated with bilateral lower limbs radiation of pain and difficulty in walking. After further medical examination and clinical tests complicacies were found in his same spine area. Accordingly, surgery was planned and performed by Dr Manoj Kumar Deo, Senior Consultant, Neurosurgeon with Anaesthesia support provided by Dr Sanjukta Panigrahi, Additional CMO Anaesthesia. Operation theatre assistance was provided by Nursing officers – Brother Kamalakar and Sister Godhuli.
Following surgery, abnormalities in spine was rectified and the condition of the patient improved considerably. As a result of the successful surgical intervention and post operative care the patient was able to climb the stairs very next day. Notably Physiotherapy was done in post-operative period and was facilitated by Mr Premananda Swain. Sister Swapna, Sister Savita, Sister Ekta, Sister Prabhanjali and others supported with necessary ward care.
