Coal India Limited, the country’s largest coal-producing PSU, has entered into a strategic 50:50 Joint Venture with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to develop a brownfield thermal power project at Chandrapura in Jharkhand. The Chandrapura Thermal Power Project will add 1,600 MW of supercritical capacity through two 800 MW units, bolstering India’s baseload power generation and supporting the nation’s energy transition goals. The MoU was signed by Shri Tushar Kumar, ED (Renewables), Coal India, and Shri Rajesh Kumar, ED (Distribution), DVC, in the presence of Chairman Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, IAS; Shri S. Suresh Kumar, IAS, CMD, DVC; Shri Ashim Kumar Modi, JS & FA, MoC; Director (Business Development) Shri Asheesh Kumar; and other senior officials from both organisations.
