In a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure and safety at Ispat General Hospital of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant, a Detecting and Alarming System has been installed and a Kitchen has been renovated. Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, DIC (RSP) inaugurated both the facilities at a function organised in IGH on 12th December 2024 in the presence of Mr. Alok Verma, ED In-charge (Works). Present on the occasion were Dr. Jayanta Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS), Dr. P K Mohapatra, CMO (M&HS), Dt. R R Mohanty, CMO In-charge (M&HS), Mr. J B Pattanaik, GM In-charge (Fire Services) and other Senior Doctors, Senior Officers of the Plant and staff of IGH.
Notably, the FDA and Fire Fighting System, executed at a cost of Rs. 6.48 crores, has been installed across the IGH complex. Covering key areas such as the Main Building, OPD Block, Nursing Training Institute, Laundry, Kitchen area, and Psychiatric Ward, the system significantly bolsters fire safety measures in the hospital.
The FDA system comprises 5 Fire Alarm Panels, 1177 FDA Detectors, and 15,000 meters of special-grade fire cables. The firefighting system includes 5 pumps, 1052 water sprinklers, 7000 meters of pipelines, 80 fire extinguishers, 101 fire hose reels, and 101 fire hydrants. Additionally, a newly constructed pump house with a 3 lakh-litre water tank has been set up to enhance the infrastructure. The FDA detectors enable early detection of smoke, which triggers an alarm and displays the exact event location on a 55-inch monitor in the Main Control Room, allowing for immediate action. The project was conceptualized by the Center for Engineering & Technology (M/s CET) and executed by the Project & Modernisation, Fire Services Department in collaboration with Medical Department of RSP. It worth noting that recently IGH has been granted the Fire Safety Certification by Odisha Fire and Emergency Services, State Government.
The Renovated Kitchen situated behind the Chest Ward in now equipped with a large chimney, 8 additional store rooms and a raised kitchen platform with LPG Cylinder Bank along with the basic tiling and lighting facilities. It is worth mentioning that the kitchen which provides diet to 320 person including Nursing Training Institute students has the SSSAI certification from Food and Safety Standard Authority of India.
The programme was jointly coordinated by Dr. Shahid, Deputy CMO (M&HS – Hospital Service), Dr. Richa, Senior Consultant and DSO and Dr. Rajib, Senior Consultant (M&HS) and concerned Departments.
