Sixty one Management Trainees (Technical) for Mines and Ceramics streams joined the Maharatna Company SAIL in an induction programme held at the L&D Department of Rourkela Steel Plant on 10th July, 2024. Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director-In-Charge, RSP and Mr. K K Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL were present on the dais while other members of SAIL Board joined the programme on virtual mode.
Wishing the new tainees the very best, Mr. Anirban Dasgupta, Director-In-Charge (Bhilai Steel Plant) in his address said that steel is an important contributor of economic development and the growth of steel industry is inevitable.
Mr. V S Chakravarthy, Director (Commercial), stated that SAIL embraces new minds and ideas and exhorted the Management Trainees to work towards making steel production cost effective so as to improve the bottom line.
Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director-In-Charge RSP went down the memory lane and narrated his experience of joining as an MTT in SAIL. He advised the MTs to be resilient, tough yet flexible as a steel so as to adapt the dynamic business environment.
Mr. B P Singh, Director-In-Charge (Durgapur Steel Plant and IISCO Steel Plant) shared his fond memories of working in the Mines of SAIL for about 20 years and said that SAIL provides opportunities to the competent and committed persons to reach the top most positions of the company.
Mr. A K Tulsiyani, Director (Finance), listed out the financial performance of SAIL in the last three years and also outlined the importance of steel in country’s GDP growth.
Mr. K K Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL assured the MTs that they have taken a right decision and all care will be taken of MTs as a family member. Citing example from India’s historic T20 world cup win, Mr. Singh urged the MTs to develop the muscle of self-confidence through regular and rigorous training.
Mr. A K Singh, Director (Technical, Projects and Raw Materials) SAIL, said that the trainees are at the right place at the right time, when RSP is doing an outstanding job of shutting down one Blast Furnace and making efforts to produce the same amount of Hot Metal from 2 furnaces.
Mr. B K Tiwary, Director-In-Charge (Bokaro Steel Plant) stated that when India is preparing for a Vikshit Bharat by 2047, the MTs have 23 important years till 2047 to contribute in realising this dream of the Nation.
Mr. S N Gupta, CVO, SAIL, said that the happiness index of SAIL is quite high as it provides the right mix of growth opportunities as well as work-life balance.
Ms. Rajashree Banerjee, CGM (HR & HR-L&D) delivered the welcome address.
An interaction session was also held on this occasion, in which Mr. Bhowmick and Mr. Singh, answered various queries of the Management Trainees.
At the outset, the function began with rendition of National Anthem and lamp lighting followed by screening a short video on ‘Welcoming Next Gen of SAIL’ prepared by the Public Relations Department. Ms. B. Bhavani. Assistant Manager, (HSM-2) who joined RSP as MTT in 2023 shared her experience of the last one year through a presentation. Mr. Subhendu Garud, Senior Manager (HR) presented a old classic song to welcome the MTs. A motivational video was also screened during the event.
Mr. H Pati, GM (HR-L&D) proposed a formal vote of thanks. Mr. Shubh Sharma, MTT (Mining) and Ms. Divya Sahu, MTA (HR) anchored the function.
