The RSP Open School Chess Tournament-2024 organised by the Sports Unit of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) at Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium concluded on 30th November. Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-Charge (Town Administration and CSR) presided over the closing ceremony and handed over the awards to the winners of the tournament. Present on the occasion were Mr. Asim Sabat, GM (Town Services) and other officers, students, parents and guardians.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Swain congratulated the winners and commended the efforts of the other participants taking part in the tournament.
Mr. Asim Sabat delivered the welcome address while Mr. R N Padhi, Deputy Manager (Sports) proposed a formal vote of thanks. Mr. Anil Mallick of SSM was the masters of the ceremony.
The First prize winners under different categories in the Boy’s section were Siddhartha Sambit Jena of St Paul’s School in Under -5 , Yugal Gupta of St. Paul’s School in Under -7, Sahil Kumar Behera of Ispat English Medium School in Under – 9, Subhashish Barik of MGM in Under – 11, Raul Kasyap of Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Under – 13 and Diptesh Kumar Tanty of DEMS. in Under – 15 category.
In the Girl’s section the First prize winners under different categories were Kamakhya Bahubalendruni of St. Paul’s School in Under – 9, Tanmayee Sahoo of Deepika English Medium School in Under – 11, Nirlipta Dhal of Delhi Public School in Under – 13 and Sanoja Xess of St. Paul’s School in Under – 15 category.
Notably, 212 students from more than 20 different schools took part in the championship.
