SAIL RSP provides prosthetics and assistive devices to Divyangjans and Senior Citizens 

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) under its CSR initiative distributed 41 prosthetics and assistive devices to Divyangjans and Senior Citizens in association with ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation) on 3rd December, 2024 to mark International Day of the Disabled Persons. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR) graced the distribution camp held at Kalyana Mandap, Koel Nagar. Present on the occasion were Mr. P K Swain, CGM In Charge (TA & CSR), Mr. Abhishek Mishra, Assistant Commissioner (RMC), Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM (CSR), Mr. Bivabasu Mallick, GM (CSR), Mr. T B Toppo, AGM (CSR), Mr. A N Pati, AGM (CSR)  and other  Officers and Staff of SAIL, ALIMCO and Rourkela Municipal Corporation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tarun Misra emphasized that support is a fundamental need for everyone, regardless of their social or physical condition. Providing support, he asserted, is not merely an obligation, it is a commitment to foster a society where no one is left behind.  Mr. Swain  said that through the joint efforts of  CSR initiatives, RSP, RMC, town programs,   and ALIMCO,  are striving to serve the community by distributing assistive devices to those in need.

The dignitaries distributed Battery Operated Motorized Tricycles, Hand Propelled Tricycle, Wheel Chairs, Hearing Aids, Smart/ Sugamya Cane, Smart Phone, Crutch Axilla besides other assistive devices to the 41 Divyangjans and Senior Citizens. It is noteworthy that the program was part of the initiative launched by SAIL to provide such useful aids to the disabled persons across all its units.

Earlier Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM (CSR) delivered the welcome address and presented a brief about the project.  Mr. T B Toppo, proposed a formal vote of thanks. Mr. Vikas Kumar, ALIMCO- Bhubaneswar, coordinated the function.

The initiative is part of a larger MoU between RSP and ALIMCO, with Rs. 107 lakhs allocated for assistive device distribution. In the current financial year alone, Rs. 28.43 lakhs has been earmarked for the RSP region, while Rs. 20 lakhs has been allocated for Odisha Group of Mines areas.

Last year, 691 beneficiaries received 1,631 assistive devices, with outreach spanning Bisra, Nuagaon, Kuarmunda, Lathikata Blocks, Rourkela slums, and other areas of Sundargarh district. This year, the program aims to utilize the allocated Rs. 48.43 lakhs by March 2025 to continue benefiting underprivileged disabled persons and senior citizens in these regions
