Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya Thackeray will contest from Worli assembly seat in Mumbai. 29-year-old Aditya Thackeray can go to file nomination on 3 October. This will be the first time in the 53-year history of the Shiv Sena that the face of a ‘Thackeray’ will be found in the election . He is now the head of the Shiv Sena’s youth wing, Yuva Sena and is the young face of the party.
Election strategist Prashant Kishore has actually advised Aditya to contest. Prashant has been advised by Aditya to make election strategy and social media campaign. At the behest of Prashant, Aditya took a public gratitude tour in the entire state in comparison to the Chief Minister’s jan sampark movement.
October 4 is the last date for filing nominations in Maharashtra. Till now none of the late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, his son Uddhav Thackeray and nephew Raj Thackeray have contested the election from the Thackeray family.
Aditya Thackeray’s residence ‘Matoshri‘ comes under Bandra East Assembly Constituency but Shiv Sena has decided to field its most ‘powerful’ candidate in the most ‘safe’ seat so that there is no danger. On the Worli assembly seat, Sunil Shinde of Shiv Sena is the sitting MLA, while his rival, Sachin Ahir, who had been in the last election, has left the Nationalist Congress Party and joined Shiv Sena. Thus, there is no strong opposition candidate there.
For the past five decades, the Thackeray family has had some form of influence in Maharashtra politics. With the establishment of Shiv Sena in the 60s, the strength of Balasaheb Thackeray grew in the politics of Maharashtra. After him, son Uddhav Thackeray took over the party but the Thackeray family will now be in the election field for the first time.
It is also being said that in the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance govt , Aditya Thackeray will become the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already offered to make Aditya Thackeray as Deputy Chief Minister.
Udhadhav Thackeray himself said that the saffron flag of Shiv Sena should be waved in the building of Maharashtra Assembly in South Mumbai. However, removing any apprehension about the alliance, he said that an alliance will be made with the BJP for the assembly elections to be held on October 21 and it will be announced very soon.
The Shiv Sena itself wanted a 50:50 allocation of seats but the BJP was not ready for it. In the 288-member Assembly, 18 seats will be left for smaller parties, while BJP may contest 144 and Shiv Sena 126 seats. Elections for Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will be held on October 21 and results will be out on October 24. Shiv Sena is trying to get back to the way it was in Maharashtra as the elder brother.
