PMFME Scheme benefits two lakh micro food processing enterprises

NEW DELHI. More than two lakh individual micro food processing enterprises have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan said at the PMFME Conclave in New Delhi. Launched in 2020, the scheme has generated around ten lakh direct employment opportunities, with nearly 80 per cent of beneficiaries being first-generation entrepreneurs and 44 per cent women. Paswan said food processing is crucial for economically empowering farmers and noted that Free Trade Agreements are opening global markets for Indian food products. He urged entrepreneurs to maintain high quality standards and highlighted the sector’s role in reducing food wastage. The two-day conclave has brought together more than 400 entrepreneurs, experts and stakeholders from all States and Union Territories to promote innovation, knowledge and growth in the food processing sector.
