BONGAIGAON. The participants of NTPC Bongaigaon’s Girl Empowerment Mission 2026 engaged in an inspiring interactive session with Dr. Sonali Ghosh, Indian Forest Service officer, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Council Head of the Department, Bodoland Territorial Council, and Field Director of Manas Tiger Reserve.
Dr. Ghosh, who holds the distinction of being the first woman Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, addressed 50 young girls during the month-long
residential programme. Drawing from her distinguished career in wildlife conservation, she encouraged the participants to dream fearlessly, remain dedicated to their education, and cultivate strong self-belief to overcome life’s obstacles.
Highlighting the vital role of environmental stewardship, Dr. Ghosh emphasized that protecting biodiversity, wildlife, and natural habitats is a collective duty of every citizen rather than forest officials alone. She urged the young girls to act as conservation ambassadors by adopting eco-friendly habits, planting trees, and conserving water within their communities.
The interactive session featured an informative documentary screening on Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, giving participants deeper insight into India’s rich biodiversity, endangered species, and conservation initiatives while allowing them to ask thoughtful questions about forestry careers and environmental protection.
The session seamlessly blended leadership development, life skills, and environmental consciousness, reflecting the core vision of NTPC’s flagship
Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. At the conclusion of the event, Executive Director and Head of Project Shri Arnab Maitra, alongside senior officials and
GEM Committee members, felicitated Dr. Ghosh for her valuable contribution to the programme. Through continuous exposure to distinguished role models across diverse fields, the Girl Empowerment Mission continues to transform young lives by nurturing confident leaders and socially responsible citizens committed to protecting the environment.
