Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has created yet another major rolling milestone by achieving its highest-ever monthly rolling of 2,48,500 tonnes in coil weight during July 2026. This surpasses its previous best of 2,47,994 tonnes recorded in March 2026.
In another notable achievement, the Sheet Shearing Line also delivered a record performance by shearing 32,434 tonnes in coil weight in July 2026, exceeding its previous best of 29,917 tonnes achieved in July 2025.
These achievements were made possible through the seamless support and synergy of associated departments including SMS, PPC, TRM, R&C Lab, FM(M) and all centralized maintenance departments, whose coordinated efforts played a vital role in sustaining operational excellence and production efficiency.
The milestone assumes added significance at a time when SAIL as a whole is focused on increasing conversion of saleable steel into more finished products. The conversion component has improved to 89% in the last quarter, compared to 86% in the corresponding period last year, reflecting the organisation’s continued emphasis on value addition and operational improvement.
The record performance of HSM-2 and the Sheet Shearing Line stands as a testament to the commitment, teamwork, and determination of the Rourkela Steel Plant fraternity in driving SAIL’s production goals forward.
