Govt Cuts Export Duties On Diesel And ATF; Excise Duty On Petrol Remains Unchanged

India cuts export duty diesel ATF excise petrol unchanged

NEW DELHI. The government has cut down export duties on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). In this regard, the Centre has issued a notification which has come into effect from today.

According to the Ministry of Finance’s release, the export duty on diesel has been set at 23 rupees per litre, while aviation turbine fuel (ATF) will attract a duty of 33 rupees per litre. There will be no export duty on petrol and it remains unchanged.

The Ministry said that export levies, such as the Special Additional Excise Duty and the Road and Infrastructure Cess, on exports of petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) were introduced with effect from 27th March, 2026. It was done to ensure domestic availability of petroleum products by disincentivising exports in the backdrop of the West Asia crisis. The ministry stated that there is no change in the existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel cleared for domestic consumption.
