Workshop on ‘Strategic Thinking for RSP 2030’ held at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant

SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant Strategic Thinking RSP 2030

A  Workshop titled “Strategic Thinking for RSP 2030: Doubling Capacity, Sustaining Target Excedance” was held on 22nd December at the L&D Centre of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).  Mr. Alok Verma, Director In Charge (DIC) of Rourkela Steel Plant was present in the inaugural session. Present on the occasion were Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Mr. B K Giri, ED (MD-CMLO), Mr. B R Palai, ED (Works), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED(MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines-OGoM, CMLO). Around 60 participants including CGMs, HoDs, and other Senior Executives of the Plant attended the workshop. Notably, Mr. Vivek Gupta, CEO (EdMyst) is the speaker of the session. The workshop was a focused capacity-building initiative aimed at preparing the organisation for future growth and sustained performance excellence.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Alok Verma said, “Rourkela Steel Plant has an ambitious growth plan ahead, with a target to scale up production capacity from the present 4.5 MTPA to 9.8 MTPA. To achieve this objective, it is essential to have a clear and well-defined strategy in place.” He urged the participants to actively take part in the session, engage meaningfully in the discussions, and contribute constructively towards RSP, which is of paramount importance for all at this juncture.

The core objective of the programme was to equip senior leadership with practical strategic frameworks and tools, enabling them to move beyond reactive excellence towards proactive, long-term strategy. Participants were guided to diagnose areas where their respective functions may be constrained, identify productivity fragilities, and understand methods to create a strategic gap map aligned with RSP’s 2030 vision.

Various sessions during the workshop focused on strengthening strategic thinking capabilities, recognising people as critical capability and productivity infrastructure, and exploring AI and future skills through live simulations. A key outcome of the programme was the development of a strategic gap map coupled with a structured 60-day action experiment, aimed at translating strategic insights into measurable actions.

The workshop was coordinated by Mr. M K Agarwal, GM (L&D). The initiative reflects RSP’s continued commitment to building strategic leadership capabilities in line with its ambitious growth and performance objectives.
