NITI Aayog has constituted a high-level Critical & Strategic Minerals Committee to fast-track India’s efforts in identifying, assessing, and developing critical minerals essential for the country’s energy transition, advanced manufacturing, and strategic sectors. Formed in line with the Ministry of Mines’ recognition of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad as a Centre of Excellence under the National Critical Mineral Mission, the Committee brings together leading experts and senior executives from premier institutions and major mining organisations. Notably, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC India Ltd., has been appointed as a Member, underscoring NLCIL’s expanding national role in strategic mineral exploration, sustainable mining practices, and long-term resource security. His extensive experience in the lignite and mining sector is expected to add significant value to the Committee’s mandate. Empowered to invite additional experts as needed, the Committee is tasked with submitting a comprehensive report within 12 months, highlighting NLCIL’s strengthened commitment to national resource development under the National Critical Mineral Mission.
