India, 13 August 2024: Today, as the world’s biggest celebration of sport comes to an end, adidas announces that athletes wearing footwear from the adizero family have won more gold medals in the fastest races – 800m and sprint distances – and secured more podium finishes in marathon distances than any other. With wins from the fastest sprint to marathon distances, adizero secures its place as adidas’ most successful ever footwear collection in its 75-year history of innovating for athletes at this highest level.

In the fastest events – 800m and sprint distances – adidas athletes wearing adizero have dominated winning 5 out of 12 gold medals – more than any others. This includes men’s 100m, men’s 110m Hurdle, and the men’s and women’s 400m, and the men’s 800m. Specifically, in the men’s sprint distances of 400m and below, adizero athletes accounted for 60% of all possible gold positions in individual events.
These incredible athletes wore adizero Prime SP 3 Strung and adizero Prime SP 3 Strung x Y3 spikes, including the customised pair worn by Noah Lyles in his electric 100m win – supported by leading proprietary adidas technologies. This includes the cushioning and responsiveness benefits of Lightstrike Pro in the forefoot, and the cocoon-like comfort and support of the Strung upper.
Adizero’s impact also shaped the tournament’s marathon races, as adizero athletes won 50% of gold medals, and 50% of all available podium spots thanks to Tamirat Tola’s record-setting performance and time of 2:06:26, Tigist Assafa’s stunning silver medal on the closing day of events, and Benson Kipruto’s bold bronze finish. This follows a great season for athletes wearing adizero – including Peres Jepchirchir and Alexander Mutiso’s victories in London, Sisay Lemma’s commanding performance in Boston, and Benston Kipruto’s success in the Japanese capital earlier this year.
All medal winners wore the ADIZERO Adios Pro Evo 1, the lightest marathon world-record winning shoe ever, which since its unveil has helped adidas athletes break two world records and win 19 key races, including an Olympic record, four national records, four course records and a World Fastest Marathon Debut. Since 2023, athletes wearing adizero have won 51% of the top 50 races in the world, more than all others combined.
