THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the Next of Kin (NoK) of each worker who lost their life and Rs 1 lakh for every injured worker following the tragic incident at the Tail Race Tunnel of the Vishnugad–Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) on August 13, 2026. THDCIL expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and assured the affected families of all possible support and assistance. According to information available so far, seven workers have died, three are missing and 12 have been rescued and admitted to nearby hospitals, while one injured worker has since been discharged.
THDCIL stands with the affected workers and their families during this difficult time with utmost sensitivity and commitment.
Senior management officials of THDCIL, including the Managing Director, are present at the site and are coordinating with the concerned agencies while directly overseeing the relief and rescue operations.
