India first passenger train 173rd anniversary Ashwini Vaishnaw

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today marked the  173rd anniversary of the country’s first passenger train in India by sharing an image of the historic Thane railway bridge and an early train. The first passenger train in the country travelled between Bori Bunder in Mumbai and Thane on 16th of April in 1853.

Sharing the image, Mr Vaishnaw, in a social media post, said, the journey continues, highlighting the enduring legacy of Indian Railways. The Minister also released a collage featuring an authenticated archival image of the historic Thane railway bridge alongside a modern Amrit Bharat Express train.

An official release issued by the Central Railway said, the archival image used is historically accurate, addressing long-standing concerns over previously circulated, misattributed visuals.

Historian Rajendra Aklekar noted that the corrected image helps set the record straight and will aid in preserving the documented history of Indian Railways.
