IAS officers condemn personal attacks on Chief Election Commissioner

NEW DELHI. The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) community has publicly condemned the recent “unwarranted abuse and personal attacks” directed at Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and his family. The backlash follows a wave of criticism from both the public and political figures aimed at the head of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The official handle of the IAS Fraternity on X (formerly Twitter) posted a strong statement in support for Kumar. “We strongly condemn unwarranted abuse and personal attacks against Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar and his family.  We urge everyone to maintain respect and decorum, acknowledging his dedicated service and significant contributions towards the nation,” the post reads.

According to sources close to the bureaucracy, there is a strong sentiment that political disputes should remain in the political arena and not target public servants. “Political battles must be fought on their own turf, not here,” a source stated, emphasizing that bureaucrats operate strictly by the rule book. They highlighted that the ECI is a constitutional body, and its actions are governed by its own legal provisions.

While public debate has been intense, the IAS fraternity’s unified front underscores a clear message: personal attacks on civil servants who are fulfilling their constitutional duties are unaccepted.
