Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has become the first major urban transit system in India to integrate with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), enabling metro ticket bookings across over 10 popular consumer apps such as Chartr, EaseMyTrip, Google Maps, Redbus, and others. Launched in November 2024 through a soft launch, this integration allows commuters to access metro services seamlessly without downloading dedicated apps or navigating multiple platforms, thereby creating a more accessible and interoperable digital mobility ecosystem for Delhi’s approximately 6.5 million daily riders.
Through a single-point integration facilitated by technology provider SequelString AI, DMRC’s ticketing services are now available on various digital touchpoints including travel apps, journey planners, and Telegram bots. This enables both intra-city and inter-city travelers to plan entire journeys—such as combining bus and metro travel—within a single app, simplifying the user experience. For example, a passenger can book a bus ticket via Redbus and purchase the metro ticket from ISBT Kashmere Gate without platform switching, streamlining multi-modal travel.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD of DMRC, emphasized that this move aims to make metro travel more convenient by embedding ticketing into the digital routines of users, while ONDC Acting CEO Vibhor Jain highlighted how this open ecosystem broadens access to public services through seamless integration. This collaboration marks a significant step toward building an open digital public infrastructure, integrating physical transit services into everyday digital life and supporting DMRC’s vision of expanding its digital footprint for a more user-friendly urban mobility experience
