Coal India implemented Digicoal in seven mega mines of SECL and NCL

Shri P. M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India, addressed the International Conference on Recent Trends in Sustainable Mining and Green Energy Evolution, organised by the Department of Mining Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The Conference was organised as part of the Department’s Centenary Celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Prasad stated that coal will continue to be the main contributor to energy in India for the next 3 to 4 decades, but the peak may arrive sometime by 2035 in the wake of renewable and green energy. He said Coal India has planned to fourfold its underground production to 100 MT by 2030 with the adoption of Mass Production Technology. He further stated that CIL has adopted a number of environmentally friendly mining practices, such as blast-free mining through Surface miners and Rippers in Opencast mines and first mile connectivity.

He also said that Coal India has embarked on a digital transformation programme and implemented Digicoal in seven mega mines of SECL and NCL which will be escalated to other major mines in next phase.
