The enterprising efforts of the employees of Centralized Maintenance, Mechanical have recently resulted in substantial savings for the plant.

A dedicated group of employees of CMM, winch section, revamped and refurbished, 3 critical, high value winches with, in house recourses.

in-house winch refurbishment plant cost savings CMM employeesIt is noteworthy that three discarded and beyond repair winches of 3 ton capacity each were lying defunct and out of use in LDBP and Blast Furnace mechanical area since long. A group of employees under the leadership of Mr. KC Behera, Junior Engineer (CMM), decided to repair and revamp these winches with in-house resources. Accordingly the existing damaged brake assemblies along with the drum controller have been replaced with in house Eldro brake assembly and panel control system. Existing drive motors repair and servicing was done with the help of Centralized Maintenance Electrical. Along with that repair of resistance box, replacement of new wire rope were also executed to make the winches functional. Procurement of new winches of similar capacity would have resulted in a cash out flow of about Rupees 45 lakhs.

Mr. D Palo, CGM Mechanical inaugurated the  refurbished winch on 24th March at the winch section and congratulated the employees for their enterprising endeavor. Mr. S Panka, GM, Incharge CMM, Mr. SP Patel, GM, Repair Construction Mechanical and other senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.
