SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has registered its highest-ever cumulative saleable steel production during the April to October period of the current financial year 2026-27 since inception. Demonstrating steady growth, operational efficiency, and enhanced market execution, the Plant achieved a record total saleable steel output of 2,440,995 tons during the seven-month period, surpassing its previous benchmark of 2,429,833 tons set in 2023.
This milestone represents a notable year-on-year growth over the 2,414,785 tons recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. The landmark performance was bolstered by record-breaking cumulative contributions across key production units since inception. Steel Melting Shop-II registered its highest-ever April-October Crude Steel production at 2,129,812 tons, while the New Plate Mill achieved a record output of 598,758 tons of plates. The Plate Mill contributed 309,645 tons of plates, exceeding both its previous best historical performance and its Annual Business Plan target. Additionally, the Silicon Steel Mill recorded its highest-ever April-October Cold Rolled Non-Oriented steel production at 48,175 tons, representing a growth of more than 23 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. Sinter Plant-I also posted its best cumulative performance since 2007 with an output of 881,889 tons.
The momentum built over the April-October period was strongly supported by a strong single-month performance in October 2026. Total saleable steel production for October reached 354,902 tons, exceeding the monthly Annual Business Plan target by nearly 4.7 percent. The month also witnessed best-ever October production records since inception across Hot Metal, total Crude Steel, Steel Melting Shop II, New Plate Mill, and Silicon Steel Mill. Hot Metal production for October reached 400,183 tons, surpassing the previous October best set in 2023, while total Crude Steel production stood at 374,540 tons. Hot Strip Mill 2 achieved significant traction during the month, producing 220,046 tons of Hot Rolled Coils and dispatching 176,790 tons in sales, exceeding monthly plan targets by 10 percent and 14 percent respectively.
