CHAMOLI. A relief package has been finalised for workers affected by the tunnel accident at THDC India Limited’s Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project in Chamoli. Under the settlement reached on August 21, 2026, the dependents of each deceased worker will receive around ₹45 lakh in total assistance, while every injured worker will be provided ₹3.50 lakh as ex-gratia compensation.
The agreement was reached during talks mediated by Chamoli Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajkumar Pandey, with representatives of THDCIL, Hindustan Construction Company and the Hindustan Federation Union participating.
The ₹45 lakh package includes contributions from THDCIL and HCC, along with additional assistance from other sources. EPF claims will be settled separately, and the compensation will be transferred to beneficiaries within a week after document verification and completion of formalities.
