No LPG Shortage in India, Supplies Fully Secure: Government

No LPG shortage India government fuel supply secure

NEW DELHI. The government has reiterated that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol, or diesel anywhere in the country, assuring citizens that the overall fuel supply situation remains stable and well under control.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India currently has around 74 days of total reserve capacity, while actual stock cover — including crude, petroleum products, and strategic reserves — stands at approximately 60 days.

The Ministry highlighted that India continues to receive crude oil from over 41 global suppliers, with all domestic refineries operating at more than 100% capacity. LPG production has also been significantly ramped up by 40%, reaching 50,000 metric tonnes per day, which meets over 60% of the country’s requirement.

To ensure uninterrupted supply, oil companies are delivering over 50 lakh LPG cylinders daily. While demand had temporarily surged to 89 lakh cylinders per day due to panic buying, it has now stabilized back to normal levels of around 50 lakh cylinders. Additionally, commercial LPG allocations have been increased by 50% in coordination with state governments to prevent hoarding and black marketing.

The Ministry further informed that 800 thousand metric tonnes of LPG imports are already secured and en route from countries including the United States, Russia, and Australia, arriving through India’s 22 import terminals.

The government has urged citizens not to fall prey to misinformation campaigns aimed at creating unnecessary panic, emphasizing that fuel supplies across the country remain adequate and uninterrupted.
