India is rapidly positioning itself as a global leader in cybersecurity, with over 400 startups and a skilled workforce of more than 6.5 lakh professionals driving a $20 billion industry. According to Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General of CERT-In, Indian innovators are developing cutting-edge solutions in areas such as threat detection, cyber forensics, and AI-based monitoring to enhance the country’s digital security. During an interaction with journalists from EU nations, Dr. Bahl highlighted that while AI strengthens cyber defence mechanisms, it also presents new risks by empowering adversaries — making its management crucial for a secure digital ecosystem.
Strengthening National Cyber Resilience
Dr. Bahl outlined CERT-In’s pivotal role in crisis management, vulnerability assessment, and real-time response to cyber incidents using AI-driven analytics. He noted that India recorded 147 ransomware cases in 2024, but swift, coordinated action by CERT-In helped reduce their impact. The agency also focuses on capacity building, international collaborations — including with France’s ANSSI — and cybersecurity drills to enhance national preparedness. Through research partnerships, startup support, and global cooperation, CERT-In continues to strengthen India’s cyber resilience in alignment with the Digital India vision.
