Rourkela Steel Plant wins several Ispat Suraksha Puraskar for exemplary safety record

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has received a number of awards from the Joint Committee on Safety, Health & Environment in the Steel Industry (JCSSI) in recognition of its exemplary safety record, with zero fatal accidents in different zones for the period 2022 to 2024.

In a function organised at the Manthan Conference Hall on 26th September 2025, Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge, with additional charge of DIC, Bokaro Steel Plant, handed over the awards to the CGMs or HoDs of the prize winning departments. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED(HR), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. S Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Mr. Rajesh Dasgupta, CGM (Finance) with Additional Charge of ED(F&A), Dr J K Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS) and many CGMs, HoDs and other senior officers, were present on the occasion.

The Coke Ovens and Coal Chemicals Department, Steel Melting Shops (SMS-I & II) and Rolling Mills (Hot Strip Mill, New Plate Mill & Plate Mill) have won awards for both 2022-23 and 2023-24.   The Blast Furnace, Sintering Plants and Raw Material Handling Plant (RMHP) as well as the Services Zone (Services, Traffic and raw Material, Utility, Centralised Maintenance, Roads) have bagged the award for the year 2023-24.

Rourkela Steel Plant has been awarded for ‘No fatal accident of contractual employees’ and ‘No fatal accident’ for the year 2024.

In the individual category, Mr. Badal Kumar Kar, Junior Engineer, Pipe Plants has won 1st prize in Poster Designing, while Mr. Deepak Ku Dey, Engineering Associate of Coke ovens has bagged two first prizes for poster designing and safety calendar designing.

Congratulating all the winning departments and winners, Mr. Verma emphasised on giving highest importance to safety in every walk of life. During the safety review meeting that followed the award ceremony Mr. Verma took stock of the initiatives being taken by RSP to strengthen the safety net as well as future plans.
