With an aim to enhance preparedness to meet any eventuality arising out of a gas leakage and fire, a Mock Drill was organised at U-Seal area of Special Plate Plant of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 24th May, 2025. This was done as a part of statutory requirement, to assess the efficacy of the onsite disaster management system of RSP and the personnel associated with it.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of Mr. R K Bisare, CGM (NPM & SPP), Dr. Prasanta Kumar Padhi, GM In-Charge (SPP) and other senior officers of the plant.
Three teams namely the Combat team, Rescue team and Auxiliary team comprising members from Special Plate Plant, Fire Services, EMD, Safety Engg , CISF & OHSC department took part in the mock drill conducted on the theme ‘Leakages of gas, fire & explosion’. The response time of different agencies and the adherence to the SOP with respect to Gas leakage were analysed in details.
It is noteworthy that such mock fire and safety drills are being organised in strategic units of RSP from time to time to maintain a high level of preparedness for tackling any eventuality.
