A seminar on ‘Automation Products for the Steel Industry’ was organized on 15th May, 2025 at the R&C Laboratory Conference Hall of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The event was presided over by Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), RSP. Present on the dias were Mr. SS Roychoudhury CGM (Maintenance), Mr. R N Rajendran, CGM In-Charge (Mechanical & Shops), and Mr. R K Muduli, CGM (Electrical). It was attended by around 80 participants from various key departments of RSP and NSPCL.
The seminar featured technical sessions by experts from M/s IRAJ Robotics & Automation, Pune, who served as the primary resource persons for the day.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Palai emphasized the critical role of automation in achieving efficient, safe, and cost-effective steel production. He encouraged the adoption of automation technologies wherever feasible to enhance overall plant performance.
Welcoming the participants, Mr. S. S. Roy Choudhury, highlighted the growing relevance of automation and mechatronics in the steel industry, particularly in the current context where safety is a top priority and cost reduction is imperative.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. S. Kulkarni, Head of East Zone, M/s IRAJ Robotics & Automation. He showcased a range of automation solutions tailored for the steel industry, including automated wagon coupling and decoupling, MCC panel inspections, and automation applications in coke ovens and steel melting shops. He also introduced AI-based smart fencing systems designed to improve safety and operational efficiency.
The event was organized by M/s Inder & Co., Rourkela, the channel partner of M/s IRAJ Robotics & Automation, and was coordinated by the CGM (Maintenance) Secretariat.
