Union Minister R K Singh emphasized the imperative to boost efficiency and curb emissions in coal-based power plants during NTPC’s Indian Power Stations O&M Conference (IPS 2024) at Raipur. Singh stressed the coexistence of thermal and renewable energy, expressing the need for mechanisms to heighten efficiency while reducing emissions in existing and upcoming coal plants. Commending NTPC’s role in the power sector, he envisioned the company doubling its capacity to 150 GW and becoming a global entity. The government aims to add 60 GW to the existing 27 GW coal-based generation capacity, addressing growing electricity demand.

Emphasizing NTPC’s role in India’s growth, he urged timely project completion and reduced outages to meet rising electricity demand. Stressing energy transition, he highlighted the coexistence of thermal and renewable energy and emphasized developing mechanisms for enhanced efficiency and reduced emissions in coal-based plants. Singh advocated for increased nuclear capacity and urged NTPC-NPCIL joint venture to expedite the process. He released IPS 2024 E-Compendium, inaugurated Vikalp, an ash-brick product, and highlighted the importance of seamless flexibilisation.
Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), emphasized sustainable O&M practices in a virtual address. Ghanshyam Prasad, CEA Chairperson, stressed safety protocols and AI-driven solutions for cost-effective power plants. NTPC’s CMD Gurdeep Singh, along with officials, participated in IPS 2024, focusing on “O&M Practices for Safe, Reliable & Cost-Effective Power Generation.”
CMD, NTPC Shri Gurdeep Singh said that the company’s first unit at Singrauli which is operating at a Plant Loading Factor of almost 100% even 42 years after its synchronization, is a testament to NTPC’s excellence in O&M practices.
