JHARSUGADA. Vedanta Aluminium continues to exemplify its commitment to empowering women and fostering diversity by deploying India’s first all-women locomotive engine team at its Jharsuguda aluminium smelter in Odisha. The team comprises four women loco drivers working in shifts, along with a gatewoman and support staff, taking charge of one of the plant’s most critical logistical operations — the internal movement of raw materials via a dedicated locomotive and rake. This initiative follows earlier industry-first milestones at Jharsuguda, including the launch of ‘Shree Shakti’, which saw 108 women taking on key night shift roles, and the inauguration of the aluminium industry’s first all-women-managed potline, featuring over 100 women employees trained through specialized programs. These bold steps underscore Vedanta Aluminium’s dedication to empowering women professionals and promoting an inclusive, equitable workplace
