Cyclonic Storm Vayu may not hit Gujarat coast.
“According to Skymet Weather, Vayu is tracking north-northwestwards. As per weather models , the very severe cyclone Vayu may skirt the Gujarat coast near Porbandar, close to Dwarka or Okha coast.”
“It is very likely to move not northwestwards for sometime and then northwestwards skirting the Saurashtra coast affecting Gir Somnath, Diu, Junagarh, Porbandar and Devbhoomi Dwarka with wind speed 135-145 kmph .
Meanwhile Skymet maintains that while the strong winds associated with the cyclonic system may cause damage over Gujarat Coast, the system itself may not make landfall at all and weaken in the sea itself.
Gujarat government had on its part put on elaborate rescue and relief mechanism in place to meet the eventuality with more than 47 teams of NDRF deployed in the state and evacuating more than two lakhs people from the coastal areas on Wednesday.
