In January 2024, two new coal mines commenced production, elevating the total to 53 from the previous 51. Of these, 33 cater to captive power consumption, 12 to the Non-Regulated Sector, and eight for commercial coal sales. The coal production and dispatch in January marked a YoY growth of 29% and 27%, respectively. Cumulatively, during April 2023 to January 2024, production reached 112 MT and dispatch 116 MT, showing a YoY growth of around 26% and 31%. The Ministry of Coal is actively expediting coal block operations to meet the increasing energy demands for AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
