The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) celebrated its 31st Foundation Day with a ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event was attended by Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal and Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta. A significant aspect of the celebration was the presentation of DMRC’s Annual Awards, which recognised individuals and teams for their excellent performance and contributions to the organisation.
Both the Union Minister and the Chief Minister commended the Delhi Metro for its accomplishments and its substantial impact on the city. Shri Manohar Lal highlighted the impressive daily ridership of 78 lakh journeys, noting that this figure surpasses the population of many countries. He praised the metro’s convenience, safety, and discipline, acknowledging its role as a vital transportation network that has positively affected the lives of commuters. Smt. Rekha Gupta referred to the Delhi Metro as a “lifeline” for the city, acknowledging the positive “feel good factor” experienced by passengers and the noticeable positive behavioural change in keeping the metro clean and following rules.
The awards for performance excellence were presented to several deserving individuals and teams. Ms. Preeti, Senior Station Controller/Train Operator, was named Metro Woman of the Year, while Shri Suresh Pawar, Senior Station Manager/Line Supervisor, received the Metro Man of the Year award. In recognition of operational excellence, Karol Bagh Metro Station was awarded Best Metro Station, and Kalindi Kunj Depot was recognised as the Best Metro Depot. Ms. Anjali, Senior Customer Relations Assistant, was presented with the Rajbhasha Puruskar for her contributions. Furthermore, a special award for promoting team spirit was given to the Metro Adventure Club (MAC) team.
