On June 25, 2025, a significant milestone was achieved in India’s renewable energy sector as THDC India Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to supply 184.08 MW of clean power from the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant in Uttarakhand. The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished dignitaries including Shri Kanubhai Desai, Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals, Government of Gujarat; Shri S. J. Haider, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat; Shri Anupam Anand, MD of GUVNL; Ms. Bhakti Shamal, Joint Secretary, Government of Gujarat; Shri R. K. Vishnoi, CMD of THDCIL; Shri Sipan Kumar Garg, Director (Finance) of THDCIL; and Shri K. P. Jangid, Director (Finance) of GUVNL. The agreement aims to support Gujarat’s peak-hour power demands and facilitate the large-scale integration of renewable energy into the grid, reinforcing India’s commitment to a sustainable energy future.
Sh. Vishnoi emphasized that this collaboration underscores THDCIL’s dedication to advancing innovative hydropower solutions, particularly with India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant, to provide reliable, green energy tailored for Gujarat’s dynamic needs. He highlighted the project as a testament to THDCIL’s engineering excellence and its vision for a sustainable, flexible, and resilient power system. Meanwhile, Sh. Garg from GUVNL remarked that this initiative marks a strategic step towards delivering cutting-edge, commercially viable clean energy solutions, aligning with national goals of renewable integration and grid stability. The event was also attended by other senior officials, including Sh. Sourav Nandy, GM (Finance) of GUVNL, and Sh. R. K. Verma, AGM of THDCIL, reflecting a collaborative effort towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape in India.
