SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has sponsored 40 promising football players from peripheral villages for special coaching at KIIT Sports Centre, Bhubaneswar under its CSR initiative ‘Project Arjun’. A special send-off ceremony for them was organized at the Institute of Periphery Development on 19th October 2024. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR) with additional charge of ED (Projects) flagged-off the bus carrying the budding sport stars. Present on the occasion were Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-Charge (TA&CSR), Mr. B K Jojo, CGM (TE-Horticulture), Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-Charge (Town Services & Sports), Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM In-Charge (CSR), Mr. Bivabasu Malik, GM (CSR) and other senior officers of Town and Plant.
Mr. Tarun Misra commended the youngsters for their achievements and encouraged them to take full advantage of the training to hone their skills. He also emphasized RSP’s commitment to empowering the youth through sports.
It is noteworthy that, Project Arjun a key CSR initiative by RSP aims at identifying and nurturing young athletes from the peripheral villages was launched in the financial year 2022-23. The beneficiaries are selected on the basis of their potential and performance, particularly in the SAMVARDHAN tournament, that is being conducted by the CSR department in the 4 adjacent revenue blocks of RSP every year.
The selected youngsters will undergo a 30-day training program at the KIIT-Sports Centre, which includes coaching, accommodation, and logistics. RSP will be spending about Rs. 9.94 lakhs, under this project for the current batch of trainees.
