Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a flagship unit of the Great-Place-To Work Certified Maharatna Company SAIL, concluded the calendar year 2024 with a string of remarkable achievements, demonstrating its best-ever performance in key production areas for any calendar year.
The Steel Plant produced 44,48,000 Tonnes of Hot Metal, 41,07,000 Tonnes of Crude Steel and 41,95,000 Tonnes of Saleable Steel in 2024 to register its best calendar year performance. The Saleable Steel production witnessed a substantial growth of 4.3% over the previous calendar year. The State-of-the-art Hot Strip Mill-2 contributed in the rise by producing 25,22,000 Tonnes of HR Coils with an impressive growth 9.5% over the previous calendar year. Similarly the New Plate Mill produced 9,66,000 Tonnes and Plate Mill produced 4,82,000 Tonnes of plates to register growth of 9.5% and 8.5% growths over last year.
The Steel Plant also banked on its strategic decisions to shut down uneconomic units to register remarkable improvements in the techno-economics parameters. Shop Productivity with 2 operational Blast Furnaces was all time best of 2.488 Tonnes /cubic meter/ day in August 2024 while the coke rate stood at 378 KG per ton of Hot Metal in the same month. The recent commissioning of the Treatment System#1 under the Zero Liquid Discharge Project has helped in achieving the best specific water consumption rate of 2.82 cubic metre per ton of crude steel (m3/ TCS) in December, 2024 improving upon its earlier best performance of 2.83 m3/TCS achieved in September,2024.
