SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant presents scholarship worth Rs. 23.05 lakhs

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) presented scholarship worth Rs. 23.05 Lakhs to 200 students belonging to the underprivileged sections from the peripheral villages as well as resettlement colonies in and around Rourkela for the academic year 2022-23.

Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-charge (TA & CSR) was the Chief Guest at a program recently organised at the Institute of Peripheral Development of CSR Department. Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM In-Charge (CSR), Mr. Bivabasu Mallik, GM (CSR) and other officers of CSR department were also present on the occasion. The dignitaries handed over the dummy cheques to the students. Notably the scholarship money is being transferred to the account of the students.

While interacting with students Mr. Swain encouraged all to dream big and work towards it for a bright future.

Shelma Toppo, a resident of Kuarmunda village, shared her gratitude, saying, “My daughter has been receiving this scholarship for the past five years. It has been a tremendous help in supporting her education for parents with modest income. Thanks to the support from RSP, we are able to provide our children with quality education. I sincerely thank the RSP management for this valuable assistance.”

Samrath Toppo, also a scholarship recipient, expressed, “With the scholarship I received through RSP, I am able to buy books and other study materials. It has enabled me to access better education. I’m really thankful to RSP for this initiative.”

Earlier, Ms. Munmun Mittra, welcomed the gathering and presented a brief on the scheme. Mr. T B Toppo, AGM (CSR) proposed a formal vote of thanks while Ms. Richa Sudhiram, Manager (CSR) and Mr. Benedict Ekka, Senior Field Assistant, CSR coordinated the function.

Notably, the students have been selected by the Office of the ADM, Rourkela. As a part of this Scholarship scheme that was launched in the year 2007-08, Rs. 12,000/- per year is given to students pursuing Higher Secondary as well as Secondary education and Rs. 10,800/- per year to the students pursuing Primary education.
