In a major operational upgradation at the Synthesis Gas Plant of Silicon Steel Mill of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) a relocated Amiad Filter EBS-10000 from the closed Hot Strip Mill-1 (HSM-1) was successfully fabricated and installed. At a function Mr. Subrat Kumar, CGM (HSMs & Auxiliary) inaugurated the ugraded facility. Present on the occasion were Mr. Chittaranjan Misra, GM In-charge, SSM (HOD), Mr. Kalyan Samajdar, GM I/c (HSM-1), Mr. Debjit Banerjee, GM (SSM- Mechanical), Mr. M.P. Rajarao, GM (SSM-Electrical), other Officers and employees of the Department.
This filter is crucial in maintaining water quality for the plant’s cooling systems, which are essential for both compressors and the synthesis gas production process, where vaporized ammonia is cracked in furnaces. Effective cooling is essential to maintain operational efficiency and prevent overheating of equipment.
The old water filtering system was ineffective, leading to frequent pipe jamming caused by dust and mud particles in the water. This not only disrupted operations but also increased maintenance costs.
The project was carried out under the leadership of the Mr. C R Mishra and executed by the mechanical team.
The installation of an Amiad filter in the Synthesis Gas Plant is a significant improvement over the conventional water filtration system previously used.
