A professional talk on ‘Green Steel with Plasma Hydrogen as Reductant’ was organised at Learning and Development Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant on 4th September 2024. Mr. Biswaranjan Pallai, CGM (Steel) presided over the session. Dr. R K Paramguru, former Chief Scientist, CSIR- IMMT, Bhubaneswar was the guest speaker.
The talk focused on the importance of Green Steel and highlighted the potential of hydrogen plasma as a sustainable replacement for carbon in iron and steel making, as well as in the production of other metals and alloys. Dr. Paramguru, discussed the innovative process being developed under the project, sponsored by the Department of Steel, Government of India at IMMT. The process aims to reduce iron using hydrogen plasma, offering a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional methods.
