Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for two major hydro power projects of NEEPCO today

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh on 22nd September, 2025 and lay the foundation stone of two major hydro power projects of NEEPCO in Itanagar.

These projects include the Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW), both developed by NEEPCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited. With an estimated cost of over Rs 3,700 Crore, these initiatives are being executed in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Heo project, located in the Siyom sub-basin of Shi Yomi district, will have a capacity of 3×80 MW and is expected to generate approximately 1000 MUs annually. The Tato-I project, with a capacity of 3×62 MW, will produce around 803 MUs annually. These projects aim to harness Arunachal Pradesh’s vast hydroelectric potential, promote sustainable energy, and bring socio-economic benefits to the region by creating employment opportunities and fostering development. They will also contribute significantly to India’s clean energy targets and support the vision of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, transforming the region’s energy landscape and advancing the national power sector.

Since its inception in 1976, NEEPCO has been a key player in power generation in India’s Northeast Region, evolving into a Mini Ratna Category-I Public Sector Enterprise. With a current installed capacity of 2,057 MW, NEEPCO’s portfolio includes hydro, gas-based, and solar projects, reflecting its commitment to harnessing the region’s renewable energy potential. Since 2020, NEEPCO has operated as a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, strengthening its capabilities and reach. The upcoming hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh are part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development and enhance energy security across the country, supporting the broader goal of creating a developed and energy-sufficient India by 2047.
