Pralhad Joshi Inaugurates Solar Training Program

Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the first Training Programme on Solar Cell and Module Manufacturing at the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurugram, and unveiled the updated Solar PV Potential Assessment of India during Seva Parv, marking a major milestone in India’s clean energy mission. Addressing the event, Joshi emphasized India’s rapid progress, highlighting that the country has already surpassed 250 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity, achieving the 50% non-fossil share target five years ahead of schedule, and is on track to reach 500 GW by 2030. He underscored India’s strong domestic manufacturing capacity, including over 100 GW of solar PV modules and more than 20 GW of wind turbine capacity, reflecting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The updated Solar PV Potential Assessment employs high-resolution geospatial analysis, satellite data, and land-use models, revealing a feasible potential of approximately 3,343 GWp using just 6.69% of wastelands, and emphasizing the diverse potential across multiple states beyond Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The newly launched training program aims to bolster technical expertise and develop a skilled workforce for India’s expanding solar manufacturing sector, focusing on advanced processes, quality control, and best practices to foster a self-reliant and competitive ecosystem. During the event, Joshi also interacted with 28 women trainees from 15 countries participating in an international solar energy training program, emphasizing the role of women’s empowerment in renewable energy development. He highlighted that these initiatives, launched during Seva Parv and Navratri, embody the spirit of collective service and nation-building, aligning with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat. Joshi reaffirmed that these efforts provide a scientific roadmap, skilled manpower, and manufacturing capacity essential for positioning India at the forefront of the global clean energy transition, ensuring energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
