Performance Enhancement Plan Workshop on Zero Demurrage Held at SAIL RSP

A Performance Enhancement Plan Workshop focusing on achieving Zero Demurrage in both loading and unloading circuits of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) commenced on 16th May, 2025 at the Learning & Development Department. The one-and-a-half-day workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), and is being attended by 32 participants from key departments including Traffic and Raw Materials, Raw Materials Handling Plant, Coke Ovens, NSPCL, Odisha Group of Mines (OGoM), Plate Mill, New Plate Mill, Hot Strip Mill-2, Production Planning & Control, R&C Laboratory, CMO, Blast Furnaces, and Marketing.

The inaugural session was graced by senior officials including Mr. Atish Chandra Sarkar, CGM In-Charge (Services), Mr. K. Sunyani, CGM (T&RM), Mr. P. K. Sahoo, CGM (HR-L&D), along with several other CGMs, HoDs, and senior officers from associated departments.

Performance Enhancement Plan Workshop on Zero Demurrage Held at SAIL RSP

In his address, Mr. Palai stressed the importance of meticulous planning and seamless inter-departmental coordination to realize the goal of Zero Demurrage. “Reducing demurrage is essential to lower production costs and remain competitive amid market turbulence,” he emphasized.

Mr. Sunyani set the context of the workshop with a detailed overview of the plant’s current performance in these areas and underscored the need to proactively address existing challenges.

In the opening session, Mr. Dhiraj Kumar, Senior Manager (T&RM), gave a comprehensive presentation covering Indian Railway norms, major operational challenges, and expectations from customers.

The workshop includes detailed syndicate discussions, followed by action plan presentations. The concluding session on 17th May will involve a detailed review and finalization of the action plan.

The program began with a welcome address by Mr. P. K. Sahoo, while Mr. S. K. Bhuyan, GM (T&RM) delivered the vote of thanks. The workshop is being facilitated by Mr. H. Pati, GM (HR-L&D), Ms. Arnnapurna Behera, Senior Manager (HR-L&D), and Mr. H. C. Panda, Junior Engineer (L&D).
